13th May 2008: Bookings now closed. The flyer will be left online for information purposes. 12 May 2008: The Tormented is now open for bookings. 15th April 2008: Another game has been announced for this year. The Tormented will be run in July. More news will follow in due course. 11th March 2008: The photos of The Call of the Raven are now online here. Thanks to Oliver and Pete for the pictures. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Charlotte is a dirty murderer. The press are scum, no matter what era. Charlotte is a dirty murderer. We invented a new phrase which will be sweeping the nation soon, you just wait and see. Charlotte is a dirty murderer. Evil knows no bounds. Stealing the Champers? That's just harsh. And Charlotte is a dirty murderer. 1st January 2008: Happy new year everyone. Booking has now closed for The Call of the Raven. 25th November 2007: The pregame flyer is now online for people to nose through and choose archetypes. Booking for the game will happen on Monday 3rd of December at 8pm. 11th November 2007: The film for The Vigil is now online here. Many thanks for Peter for knocking this together. 24th October 2007: The pictures for The Vigil are online here. There will also be a film soon and the Character FYEOs Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Vigils are very tiring. For everyone! Charlotte's idea of small portions is the size of a plate. Major Adams should be demoted for pandering to his floozy. Jumping on a table while calling down the wrath of god isn't a good idea on rickety benches. Talking a blind vicar back to his priest hole is better than a remote controlled car ("Left, Right, Forward. Stop!") Command decisions should be left to the Captains, not Majors (especially ones who lock our guns away. Not that we're still bitter or anything, oh no.) Soup. Just....just....sigh. 17th August 2007: Future events page has been updated. More games to be announced soon. 11th June 2007: The For Your Eyes Only for Damocles have been put online here. Thanks to Andy for that. 4th June 2007: Booking has now closed. Yep, it was that quick! 4th June 2007: Booking are now open for the next game here. 14th May 2007: Pregame flyer for The Vigil is online here. 11th May 2007: Currently doing the finishing touches to the pre-flyer for the next game. We will send out an email saying when it is online. You won't be able to book yet, it's just so you can have a think about what character you want to play. Also, the 'organising a game' article has been updated. 2nd April 2007: I've updated the future events page with Pegasus - The Vigil. Not much in the way of details yet, just wanted to let people know we were still running games! Hopefully there should be more information on games next year coming soon. 17th March 2007: The photos are now online here. 14th march 2007: I will get the photos from They Came From Beyond online soon. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Jen can spit jelly (sorry, radioactive vomit) with unerring accuracy. No one cares about a civil servant. Apparently the way to deflect radiation is with Nivea cream and sunglasses The Scottish accent sounds a bit Welsh / Irish / Indian-y. It does now, anyway. A journalist can get out of any room, no matter how well locked. People still haven't learnt not to turn their back on Dave. Sigh. We keep telling you... 'Save the Cheerleader, save the world' is not only a line from Heroes, it should've been Tim (Fonz) final words before saving mankind. God bless him and his quiff. 2 March 2007: Just under a week to the game! Also, this website will be moving hosting company after the next game. This should be transparent but there might bit the odd problem. The forum will be the main change to things and this may be down for a while until it can be constructed. 31th January 2007: Booking has now closed on They Came From Beyond. 14th November 2006: The external forum seems to be down. If you need to contact us about They Came From Beyond you can email us on they@thedarkdoor.co.uk 13th November 2006: Booking is now open for our next game, They Came From Beyond! 11th November 2006: Photos from the game are online here. Booking for the next game will happen from Monday morning. 5th November 2006: I will get the photos from The Damocles Imperative online soon. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Firing 40 rounds from a tommy gun in one go is great! But picking them up afterwards isn't. Playing on bonfire night adds a hell of a lot of atmosphere to a game. If you can't do a French accent, do a Welsh one instead. Stretchers needs to be stronger. Even Jesus turns up to these events. Nobody hesitates to dig up a body. 27th October 2006: Just a week until the game. I hope everyone has their costumes sorted out! 29th August 2006: We are now booked up solid for the Damocles Imperative. 28th August 2006: Updated the Future Events page. We had to postponed the weekender we had planned because it began to dawn on us that we wouldn't have enough time to sort it out, so we're looking into doing one towards the end of 2008 instead. However, we do have something different planned in its place (see the future events page for a clue). 17th July 2006: We are now taking books for The Damocles Imperative. 8th July 2006: Booking for 'The Damocles Imperative' will commence on 17th July. 20th June 2006: Sorry for the downtime of the site. 18 June 2006: As the message board was getting hit more and more with spam bots I've taken it off and replaced it with an external forum linked to the Dark Door. Also, keep your eyes open for a date for when you can start booking for the next game soon. 8th April 2006: John Williams has done a write up for The Vengeance of Titlacahuan here, plus a little something from Max. Peter has also updated the Roll of Honour. 7th March 2006: The photos from The Vengeance of Titlacahuan are now online here. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: It's quite funny being bundled by four zombies while being only armed with a pick axe (what a way to go!) It's not nice putting your arm into sub-zero jelly. Never drink the funny glowing liquid. Ever. Hacking your own leg off to survive an infection only to be killed by a spiderthing is the definition of bad luck. Never trust Johnny Foreigner . Don't let Dave near your shotgun. 25th February 2006: Just a week to go to the game. 31st January 2006: The booking deadline has gone. However there is still a single space available. 22nd December 2005: The website will be changing servers over the Christmas break, just in case you're wondering why things aren't working properly. 4th December 2005: Details of our next game, The Vengeance of Titlacahuan, are now online. Also, the photos from The Whisperer in the Void are online here. 28th November 2005: Finally got The Whisperer In the Void game done after a year's postponement. Yey! Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Friendship doesn't mean much to a guy with an axe. Give someone an 'electric' gun and they will make their own noises for it without any encouragement (zzzzzzzzzzzztt...) Give out three electric guns and it sounds like an angry bee hive. Fungus creatures make a high pitched girly squeal when attacked. Hissing Infected Ex-patients are just damned scary, even to the ref. Gate travel sometimes involves swaying from side to side. Small Chicken kebabs are gorgeous... 15th November 2005: Vengeance of Titlacahuan is going to happen 4th march 2006 at Dimmingsdale, near Alton. The flyer will be online soon. 15th October 2005: Booking has now closed for The Whisperer In The Void. All spaces have now gone. Well, we did keep telling you the deadline was getting near.... 21th August 2005: Had our 15000 visitor to the Website today. Yey. 26th July 2005: The photos from A Darker Shade of Yoggoth are online here. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Don't run a game in a field (there's nowhere to hide. Scary) French men can talk. And talk. And talk... Money can buy you anything. Yes, anything. Shotguns are still great. Sarah wore a dress with a slit up the side that went a little too high (well, it made me blush anyway) 16th May 2005: I've added a new article Facing the Unknown. It's a small guide in fighting some of the other creatures out there. Granted, it's not the best advice... 9th May 2005: The deadline for booking on A Darker Shade of Yuggoth is the 20th May. Time is running out fast so don't say we didn't remind you. 25th March 2005: Updated the Roll of Honour to include the surviving characters from Wraithwood 21 March 2005: The flyer for A Darker Shade of Yoggoth is online here. Also, the write up for The Bane of Wraithwood is online here. I know, we're just spoiling you... 14th March 2005: The write up for Bloodties is finally(!) online now so thanks for Steve Ellner for that. 13th March 2005: Well that's The Bane of Wraithwood over and done with. If you came along, I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any photos of the game you want on the web site could you send them to pictures@thedarkdoor.co.uk and I'll bung them on when the write-up is complete. Oh yes, there will be a write up this time, no messin'. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: Love between man and ghost is a beautiful thing. Silent combat just feels sooooo wrong. Helen can scream (much to her own surprise) Having six people killed in a single attack not only worries the players, it also worries the Ref. I hate bowties. 8th February 2005: The deadline has now passed for Wraithwood. The player packs should be in the post about a couple of weeks before the game. 29th January 2005: It's only a week to go till the deadline of The Bane of Wraithwood. If you're coming then get your finger out! 25th December 2004: Happy Christmas everyone! 5th December 2004: The date has been set for The Whisperer in the Void. It's 25th till the 27th of November 2005, so don't say we don't give you enough warning about these games! Obviously, we won't be taking any bookings for it until we're far closer to the game itself. 1st October 2004: The web site had it's 10,000 visitor today. We're dead great, we are. 18th September 2004: The title for the next game is The Bane of Wraithwood, which takes place on Saturday 12th March 2005: at Shining Cliff, Derbyshire. The flyer will be out late October/ early November. 12th September 2004: Got some pictures for Ancient Evil: Remnants online here. It's only the ones I took while stuck in the monster hut so nothing special. Also there are some pictures from Peter. If you have any photos of the game you want on the web site could you send them to pictures@thedarkdoor.co.uk please? Thanks. Anyway, the game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: It may be freaky to watch people eat themselves, but it tastes even worse. Zombie hoards are great! People still have a habit of tripping up in the woods even though they are being chased by very slow moving zombies I look damn great in tights 16th August 2004: The deadline for Ancient Evil: Remnants has now passed. Look, it's no used moaning about it, we kept telling you the deadline was approaching but did you listen... Also, the date for the first game of the new year has been set as 12th March at Shining Cliff 14th August 2004: It's my birthday today. And in other, less important news: The postponement of 'The Whisperer In The Void' at the end of the year Sorry, but we've had to postpone 'The Whisperer In The Void' weekend game due for December. The problem is we've been given the run around by various new sites we were trying to use, and when we tried to use our backup site, that was booked until well into next year. We even tried to do a one day game to fill the void but sites for that were booked solid for this year as well! It's a shame because we were really hoping to get three events done this year. This is the new plan of action: There's going to be a one day game around mid-march 2005 at a site to be confirmed. And the weekender will be pushed until the end of next year. Sorry again for all those people looking forward to the game. 9th August 2004: Added some more photos from Shadows of Azathoth. Thanks Justin. 30th July 2004: The sections Generating a Character and Game System have had a bit of an update. Hopefully it'll make things clearer! 21st June 2004: Ancient Evil: Remnants will be running on Saturday 11th September. Also, following the feedback on the new skill system introduced at the end of last year, we have now reviewed the rules concerning weapons skills. Click here to see the proposed changes. If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to post them on the message board. Provided the feedback is in favour we will update the Game System and introduce the new rules for the next event in September. 2nd June 2004: The Roll Of Honour has been updated with the survivors from Shadows of Azathoth. All three of them. 29th May 2004: I've got the photos and character backgrounds from Shadows Of Azathoth online now. Thanks to Ryan and Pete for the photos. There should be more on the way via Justin. 24th May 2004: I've set up an address for pictures of games to be set if you want them on the web site. It's pictures@thedarkdoor.co.uk The game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt: People shearing sheep ain't the least bit fazed by a rampaging demon thing. Carter the Great isn't so great at running, but is good at magic. It still gets bleeding hot in those suits. How good camouflage is (just call me Mr 'At One With The Night') 14th May 2004: Just over a week to go to the game! 19th April 2004: Bookings for Shadows of Azathoth are now closed. If you have booked then further details concerning the game will be sent out to you the week before. If you missed the deadline then tough: We gave you 10 weeks notice! 7th April 2004: We're down to the last few places for Shadows of Azathoth. If you're coming, hurry and get your booking forms / character sheets in by the 19th April! 19th March 2004: Remember the booking deadline our next game, Shadows of Azathoth, is fast approaching. So don't forget: to secure your place on the game your character sheet and booking form, along with your deposit of £15.00, must be received by Monday 19th April 2004. Spaces are limited to 15 players and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. 8th February 2004: The flyer for Shadows of Azathoth is now online here. The flyer and character sheet / booking form will also be in the post this week. Also got a couple of more photos from Blackwater 2 online here, so thanks to Dan for those. 30th January 2004: Shadows of Azathoth will be run on Saturday 22nd May 2004. There will be a flyer online soon. 15th January 2004: Done a little article on escape and evading the forces of darkness. I'm not saying the advice is perfect... 10th January 2004: The web site is officially one year old today and in that time it's had over 6000 visitors. Blimey, who da thought it? 1st January 2004 (!!): Happy New Year everybody. 30th December 2003: Peter has updated a few sections of The Game System and Generating A Character to clarify a few points, including the results of the recent skills discussion. 24th December 2003: Happy Christmas everyone. Alex Hegazy had provided some notes on Blackwater 2 which I've put online here (Thanks Alex) 15th December 2003: The next game, Shadows of Azathoth, will be happening towards the end of May in Wales. I'll put up the date when it's been confirmed with the site owners. Flyers and such like will be sent out the end of January (once everyone's got Christmas out of the way!) 23rd November 2003: The photos are online here. The game seemed to be a success, more or less (from a player's point of view). Things I learnt: Shotguns are grrrrrrreat! As are Hockey sticks and Cricket bats. The art of 'Tactical Concealment' (Did I mention Dave and me survived?) The evil things that lie within death and life will knock politely on the door before bursting in and committing a killing spree. This fact is made even more better because the evil thing in question was a 100 tonne stone monster thing. That family ties mean nothing, especially to your sister. 15th November 2003: Just a week to go to the next game. Okay everyone? Got it this time? It's next weekend on the 22nd/23rd. That's next Saturday (If you don't know what that was all about, it'll take too long to explain!) 23rd September 2003: I've added some photos (Cheers Mark) on the web site. There's a couple of new ones in Shining Cliff 2 and a couple of pages worth in The Lurker Within! 6th September 2003: Updated the character sheets to include a space for equipment. Granted, it isn't the most exciting of news... 3rd August 2003: Done some minor changes to the web site, just to tidy things up, including a site map on a few pages. It's also my birthday on the 14th so feel feel to lavish gifts on me! 6th July 2003: There's been much talk of changing the skill system we use as the current one wasn't well suited for Live Action Role Playing. Well, its finally happened. As you can see a new button as been added. 22 June 2003: Updated the Roll of Honour to include Mr Tepp and Prof. O'Bannon. Yes, all of two people survived the last game! 10th June 2003: Got some of the photos from Fall Of The Black Shrine online here. They're not in much of an order at the moment as I hope to get pictures from other people to put in. 8th June 2003: The game seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt:
1st June 2003: Less than a week to the game. Eek! 4th May 2003: I've added a questionnaire under the article page (or click here) that lets you all test yourselves to see if you really have got what it takes to come on these games. As you can probably tell, it's not entirely serious! 14th April 2003: Added a downloadable character sheet (it's in .doc format). It's on the Articles page, or you can click here for it. 13th April 2003: The date and title of Dan's game in November is set: Black water, An Everlasting Evil, on the 23rd of November. 31st March 2003: The results of the Dark Door Awards are online here 23rd March 2003: Details of the next game "Fall Of The Black Shrine" are online now. 8th March 2003: Voting has now closed on the Dark Door awards. The results will be posted soon so keep your eyes open. Thanks for all your votes! 24th February 2003: Sorry for the lack of updates but we've been busy plotting, building and planning our next game. Anyway, to celebrate the most entertaining and imaginative elements of past games, we introduce the 10th Anniversary Dark Door Awards. Here you can vote for those individuals who made our games so memorable and praise those events which made your day. 26th January 2003: Have set the date for the next game. It's the Saturday 7th June at a site near Stanstead. More details to follow in the coming months. Also got Pete's photo's from Hindhead online (better late than never...) 20th January 2003: Got the Message Board up and running. Thanks to Katharine Youle, Daniel Grundy, Gavin Newton and Alex Clarke for that and other ideas for the site. 10th January 2003: Here it is at last. The Web Site officially gets launched! So I just want to say hello everyone, hope you like everything. Seems odd having more than four people looking at it for a change! 4th January 2003: Been busy tweaking, cleaning, straightening things. It's beginning to look like a proper web site! Just need a good idea about what to do with the background (someone said it looks like a crumpled paper bag.) 1st January 2003(!): Happy new year everyone. Got a review of 'The Monk's Trod' online. Sorry there isn't any photos for it. 29th December 2002: Got the article 'Battling Zombies' online. You've got no idea how long it took to do those photos. I mean, the funny looks we were getting in that graveyard... 9th December 2002: Updated some more of the web site (as you can see above). 29th November 2002: Got the Roll of Honour done (Thanks to pete). Bloodties photos online. 24th November 2002: Got the photos from The Legacy and Hindhead online. 23rd November 2002: Got The Evil Awakens, The Memoirs of Martin Levine, and an account of The Feast of St Valentine online. Got The Taken online and put on Peter's photos from The Lurker Within. Also changed the index page and home page. I've been busy! 5th November 2002: Got The Servants of Yog Sothoth and The Relic online, as well as some photos from the The Lurker Within. Sorry there's not many photos in The Relic! 28th October 2002: The Lurker Within seemed to be a success, more or less. Things I learnt:
