The Servants of Yog Sothoth continues...
Fiona said that we needed
an item of Jonathon's as a 'focus' so I heartily suggested the amulet on display
downstairs on the bureau, which George previously stated belonged to Jonathon.
Myles brought it up on a tray, placed it on the table where a single candle was
lit and we were instructed to all sit in a circle joining hands (us chaps too!!)
The lights were extinguished.
Fiona soon slipped into what Jonnie later described as a state of
catatonia (an
obvious sign of madness) she groaned and swayed, then all bally hell broke
loose, doors were slamming downstairs, a wild wind seemed to rush through the
house, and a candle spontaneously lit itself next to Jonathon's picture above
the fireplace, at which point George noticed what appeared to be blood running
down the picture although no source could be found. Miss Shortlands passed out,
and, as the circle was broken all was quiet again. Jonnie and myself brought
Fiona around with a good slap and some smelling salts (although I did mention to
Jonnie that the salts were a bit excessive) and we started to investigate the
happenings.
Upon examination the blood in Mr Huxley's picture seemed rather odd, it
appeared not to be clotting in the usual manner. I quizzed George about any
history of illness in the family but drew a blank. All went quiet after these
events and after a few hours of futile investigation most guests decided to turn
in for the night, after all we had to be up early in the
morning for what George described as a 'surprise treat' for us.
Miss Cavanagh suggested a game of cards, so Jonnie, Ginger, myself and
Mr. Brackner settled down with her and a bottle of port and some stilton
in the hope of winning a few pounds. A bad move as I recall, we shouldn't have
let Jonnie in as he must have taken several thousand by the time we called it a
day.
As I was just drifting off to sleep I was startled by some footsteps in
the hall, then a door slammed, and I heard what sounded like George shouting
"What the....No!" then there was a thud and all went quiet. I dressed
and made my way into the hall only to find George and Mr. Harper laying
unconscious on the flagstones. George had a nasty cut on his forehead and Mr
Harper.....well, he seemed drugged on examination.
Then the back door burst open and a rather short chap burst in holding a
bloodied knife, he was done out all in black and had a painted face....curious.
Mr. Webster coming down the stairs called for him to stop, he panicked and when
Mr Webster fired upon him three times he dived into the servants quarters and
out of a window, apparently wounded.
Upon questioning Mr. Harper explained that he was visiting the little
boys room (odd, as there was one right next to his room and other guests claimed
it was empty!) when the front door burst open (again odd as there was no sign of
forced entry) and three figures ran in and blew some sort of dust in his face,
at which point he collapsed in a heap. George came down to see what the
commotion was all about and was set upon by the three scallywags.
After a while of useless guesswork we decided to go to sleep and call the
police in the morning.
PC Evans arrived shortly after 10 in the morning after we had discovered
that the amulet used in the seance was missing. He quizzed us all (rather
unprofessionally I might add!) and went about his way, saying he will look into
it. At which point Shannon the groundsman arrived for work and set about his
business. We asked George whether he
might have any clues to the incident the previous night, and he suggested an old
box in the attic which Myles promptly brought down. In it we found a few
personal artefacts, a camera, a photograph of a woman with an inscription on the
back and a few scraps of paper which appeared to be clues to the whereabouts of
three keys, which were needed to open a strange oriental box in the sitting
room.
We deciphered one of the clues and found the key, another led to a Henry
Smithic, an antiques dealer some way off, so Mr Brackner telephoned him to see
if he was any help. A Mr. Charles Smithic answered the call and explained that
Henry was his grandfather and he knew nothing of any key and hung-up. Also in
the box was some strange texts which several people sat down to try to
translate.
Miss Cavanagh seemed rather vexed at the photograph and started pressing
George to 'finish their business'.
George still not recovered from the nasty shock starts to get ill and often
falls asleep during the morning so he quietly went back to bed about midday upon
doctor orders. Fiona went with him to ensure he is all right. A short while
later we heard Fiona scream and rushed up the stairs, there was no sign of her
and George was rambling about demons taking her away so Jonnie sedated him
heavily. There was some salt and candles arranged in a pattern by George's bed.
Most odd it wasn't there before! It would appear our host was going mad!
Looking into the clues further we discovered that Huxley had given a key
to his trusted friend Shannon - Ted's grandfather! Ted led us to it's location,
but on the way we found the constable his throat slit. His pocket book claimed
us all to be drunkards and he suspected Harper of foul play. I too was blamed
for driving over a farmers dog the previous night. Tosh!
We found the second key and a diary to boot! In the diary were
unmentionable things, the utterings of a madman - Jonathon Huxley, about his
trip to China and what occurred there. So awful were they, I find myself unable
to write them down as I also am feeling the same symptoms as George, I feel I
have been infected with whatever is in his blood. It is changing him, he has
strange growths, transforming his face and when we operated, his eye was gone,
just a mass of solid tissue. I hope to god that I do not have to go through the
ordeal of Jonnie performing a lobotomy upon me as we did to George. He is
already questioning my sanity. I feel to ill to write any further...... perhaps
one day a cure will be found.............
6pm.
I feel strangely better, vomited and passed out a couple of hours ago,
but whatever George has, it would appear, I haven't. Blood samples are normal
and no obvious signs of insanity.
George has vanished. We have now translated most of the texts on how to
destroy 'The servant', a thing mentioned in Jonathon's texts. A short while ago
I discovered a letter addressed to Miss Cavanagh, curiosity overcoming me I read
on.....It would appear that she is out to destroy George! Apparently Jonathon
defrauded her grandfather leading to his suicide, and by what we read in
Jonathon's diary he had and affair with her grandmother resulting
in......Bally-Ho...GEORGE AND HER ARE COUSINS.
She appears out for revenge and obviously went mad, she fired upon Jonnie
but her gun jammed (a woman carrying a gun?) darting into a bedroom I approached
to try and reason with her. She only bloody well went and shot me! Only a
superficial wound in the shoulder though! Shannon shot her dead through the
window.
